Air Conditioning was once considered a luxury, but it’s slowly becoming a necessity!

Keeping cool is the only way to be in the summer time. When an air conditioner was first available there was undoubtedly some sceptical poeple, as there is with any new technology. But lets face it, it’s not something you have to experience twice to be convinced. People were willing to pay a lot of money to have their house cooled. Preceding this, the practice of harvesting ice and snow in the winter and storing it for use in the summer was gaining traction in the late 19th century. This was likely due to the availability of insulating materials and products. But could you imagine? It’s no wonder that the advent of the residential air conditioner unit in 1920 was on the fast track to global adoption. Now you can find somebody to install an air conditioner in nearly any city in the world!
An air conditioner unit essentially removes heat from the air by the use of a refrigerant fluid. In 1928 freon was invented. The first non-toxic, non-flammable refrigerant fluid and it is still used today as the industry standard. The air is pushed through coils of freon before it is sent through your ducting and into your home, frosty cool.
In 2013, 80% of households in Manitoba were reported to have air conditioner units. This is significantly higher than the national average of 55%, and we all know why. Air conditioners are becoming essential appliances, especially if you’re looking to buy or sell your house.
